Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte, who could be managing his final match as Chelsea boss on Sunday, has revealed to newsmen how happy he is working with Olivier Giroud, who has been a perfect addition to the Blues side.
The Frenchman joined Chelsea from Arsenal in the winter transfer market, though he didn’t immediately hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, he has finally picked up and firing from all cylinders for the Blues.
In last Sunday’s match against Liverpool, the Frenchman was given a rare start by Conte and he didn’t disappoint as he scored the only goal of the encounter to give the Blues a sought of a lifeline in their race to finish among the top-four clubs by the end of the season.
The lanky striker found space to run unto Victor Moses’ whirling cross and beautifully nodded the ball pass Loris Karius.
While reacting to the player’s performance during his pre-match conference against Huddersfield Town, the Italian manager revealed that he expects nothing less from Giroud due to his experience with Arsenal and the Les Bleus of France.
“We are talking about a player with great experience, an international player. He’s played in many leagues, I think it’s a good signing for us and a good fit.” said the Chelsea head coach
Conte also comments on Bakayoko, who has largely been criticized by Chelsea fans for his lacklustre performance in his debut season with the Blues.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from AS Monaco during last summer window but has failed in his bid to establish himself as a household name in Conte’s starting lineup.
Just as Giroud, the holding midfielder was lively against Liverpool but Conte believes there is room for improvement, considering his qualities.
“But I know him and for sure he has a lot of space for improvement. For this I am sure but we are talking about a young player with not great seasons on his back in the past, only one season with Monaco last season when he played often,” the Italian concluded
