Real Madrid have encountered another huge setback in their mission to capture Manchester United netminder David De Gea as the Spaniard confirmed his happiness playing for the Red Devils.
In an interview with Sky Sports after being voted as United’s best player of the season, the 27-year-old said he is not thinking of leaving Old Trafford any time soon as it has been a great privilege and honour to put-on the Red Devils jersey.
This report will be a very sad one for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez who has been tracking the player’s development for more than four seasons hoping to lure him to Santiago Bernabeu but he failed in all his bids to convince United to let him go.
The Los Blanco were at the brink of announcing his signature in 2015 but a last-minute change of mind by United prevented the deal from materializing but Madrid hasn’t cooled their interest in the player despite the disappointment.
De Gea, 27, would see his contract expire by the end of next season but United board of directors are doing everything possible to offer him a one-year extension before the end of this season so as to prevent the European Champions from making another move for his signature when the summer transfer window begins in few weeks.
Meanwhile, José Mourinho is hoping that the four-time best player remains in perfect shape ahead of his team’s FA Cup final match against Chelsea later in the month. The Portuguese manager is yet to win any trophy this season and he would want to break the unwanted run by defeating Antonio’s men on the 25th of this month at the Wembley stadium.
