Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Nigerian International Alex Iwobi a new contract by the end of the season despite his poor performance this campaign.

The youngster broke into Wenger’s first-team last season and he was impressive in his performances for the North London club in the 2016-17 season but the 22-year-old has failed to reproduce the same stellar display throughout this term.

According to a Nigerian media ScoreNigeria, who are known for their unbiased reports about African players, Iwobi would be given a new contract anytime soon considering how good he can be when he is in form.

Should be recalled that the nephew to former Nigeria international Jay-Jay Okocha signed a five-year contract with the Gunners in 2015 which would expire in two more seasons but the North London club want to hold on to the young player for a very long time.

Should he accept the proposed contract, the £30k weekly earner could see his salary increase to £36k according to the same report.

Having played 36 matches for Arsenal this season, the nimble-footed player has only scored two goals and also assisting just four goals. He desperately needs to improve on his finishing and decision making as that have been his major weaknesses throughout the season.

It remains unknown if Arsenal’s incoming manager would show much faith in the youngster by keeping him beyond this season.
