Manchester United remain optimistic over Celtic defender Kieran Tierney’s signature this summer as they have reportedly made an official approach to the Scottish League giants so as to convince them to let go of the youngster.

Tierney is arguably one of the best youngsters in modern football as he has put in impressive performances for the club throughout this season.

With his consistent blistering display at the back for the Scottish Champions, Manchester United are eyeing a summer swoop for his signature and according to ESPN, Mourinho is in contact with the £20m-rated defender in order to lure him to Old Trafford ahead of other interested managers.

Tierney is a versatile youngster who can comfortably operate as a full-back, right-back and centre-back, depending on Mourinho’s tactical approach to any match.

It is believed that the Portuguese manager is ready to offload England defender Luke Shaw- who has failed to impress him- this summer and he is desperately willing to sign the 20-year-old as Shaw’s replacement.

The Scottish international has captained the Scotland national team despite his young age and that is reportedly the main reason behind Mourinho’s desire to work with him.

According to transfermarkt, Tierney is worth £20m and Mourinho has advised the club’s board of directors to ensure they meet up with Celtic’s price tag on the youngster.
