Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice over a possible summer move for their highly-rated midfielder Jean-Michel Seri.
The Blues have had a season to forget as they failed to mount pressure on Manchester City for the League title, which they won last season.
To add to their miseries, the Blues have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League competition after playing a 1-1 draw against West Ham last Sunday which automatically ruined their chances of displacing Tottenham from the fourth position in the League table.
In their bid to avoid experiencing the same woeful performance next season, the West London club are making a swift move for the 26-year-old this summer so as to beat their Spanish rival Barcelona and Manchester United, to his signature.
Man United were heavily linked with the attacking midfielder, who could also operate from the flanks, during last summer transfer market but the Blaugranas opted for Borussia Dortmund’s youngster Ousmane Dembele.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea are in talks with the Ivorian who is believed to have a secret release clause of €40m in his contract with Ligue 1 giants.
The French publication also suggests that Manchester City and Manchester United are keeping close eyes on Seri’s situation and they might make an outrageous offer for the player’s services in the summer.
