Chelsea went into their last game knowing that a win is the least result they could get if they must stand a chance of displacing Tottenham from the fourth position in the league table.
Despite playing at home to the Hammers, Chelsea failed to record a much-needed victory but they settled for a draw which automatically ruled them out of next season’s Champions League competition.
The Blues took the lead in the first period of the game but they failed to maintain their discipline at the back as they carelessly gave West Ham striker Javier Hernandez the chance to strike a shot which was too strong for Thibaut Courtois, who just returned from his short-term injury, to deal with.
While reacting to their unimpressive display, Germany international midfielder Rudiger blasts his teammates for blowing up the chance of putting more pressure on Tottenham for the fourth spot.
He also pointed an accusing finger to the team’s strikers who failed to take their chances throughout the encounter.
Rudiger further laments the Blues failure to give legend Ray Wilkins, who passed away last week the perfect departing gift.
He, therefore, charged the team to return back to the form they are known for before the close of the season, though that might not be enough to see them qualify for Champions League.
