Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochetino has finally revealed the reason behind his decision for dropping Toby Alderweireld from his squad list in recent matches despite the Belgian impressive stats for the Lillywhites since he joined the team.

According to many pundits and media outlets, Pochetino’s decision could be traced to the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future at the Wembley stadium.

Alderweireld will be out of contract by the end this term and he is demanding for an increase in his weekly wages but the club’s hierarchy are not willing to add to his current £50,000 – a-week contract.

He is believed to be asking for a £100k-increase from Tottenham’s board of directors.

Manchester United have been linked with the player’s signature and they are reportedly ready to make a £25m move for the Belgian defender in the summer as Mourinho looks set to bolster his team for the upcoming season.

While speaking to newsmen concerning Alderweireld’s misfortune at the club, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochetino revealed that Alderweireld is not featuring regularly in his team due to the strong competition among his defenders.

He further pointed out that the strong partnership between his in-form center-backs has given him no chance to bring him into play.

According to the Argentine manager, Alderweireld needs to work hard in training ground to stand a chance of being in his squad list for the remaining matches in the season.

Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on the player’s situation at Wembley and they might be making a swoop for his signature in the summer.
