Manchester United boss José Mourinho is reportedly keen on bringing Algerian defender Faouzi Ghoulam to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window as he looks to improve his team’s defensive attributes ahead of the 2018-19 season.
The Algerian defender who currently plays for Serie A giants Napoli is being a longterm subject of speculation and United are ready to reignite their interest in the defender who is rated £22.5m by transfermarkt.com, a financial-base website.
Faouzi was one of the best defenders in the Italian League during the first half of the season before he picked up an unfortunate cruciate ligament injury which has ruled him out of action since his October last year.
According to reports, the Red Devils are ready to table £26m offer for his signature before the start of next season and Napoli might be forced to cash-in on him due to the effects his long-term injury lay-off could have on his performance.
Should Ghoulam join United, Ashley Young might be forced to leave Old Trafford as Mourinho would prefer using the young and skilful player ahead of the 32-year-old England international.
Despite being a natural left-midfielder, Ghoulam has brilliantly operated as a left-back for Napoli and that has given Mourinho the assurance that with Ghoulam in his team, he has a holding midfielder and equally a strong left-back who could cover up for his overlapping teammates.
