Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is eyeing a summer move for 18-year-old Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt in the summer transfer window according to report from the Daily Mirror who are known for their authentic transfer rumours.
The British media suggests that the Frenchman has been a longtime admirer of the youngster but he didn’t make any move for his services as he wants him to learn more about the trade before making an official approach to his agent.
It seems the manager is now ready to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium this summer as he is hoping to find a long-lasting solution to the team’s defensive problems ahead of next season.
The 68-year-old tactician has reportedly sent his scouts to keep a close tab on the player’s performance for Ajax in recent weeks and he is happy with what he has heard from the scouts, therefore eager to make the 18-year-old his prime target when the summer transfer window begins in two months time.
According to Daily Mirror, Ajax are not ready to let go of their bright prospect and they are ready to slam huge price tag on the player so as to scare the Gunners off his services but it remains unknown if both parties would be able to strike a deal before the end of the summer transfer window.
Wenger is reportedly set to make wholesome changes to his backline ahead of next season, the Frenchman has been linked with a move for United’s left-back Luke Shaw, West Brom’s star Jonny Evans and now, the Ajax youngster De Ligt.
