The Daily Mail is claiming that the 26-year-old Italian is a potential transfer target for United as manager Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield ahead of next term.

The same article states that the player is Liverpool’s preferred transfer target to replace Germany international Emre Can, whose deal at Anfield Stadium runs out at the end of the current season.

However, it is also suggested that the Reds know that they might face stiff competition for the player’s signature in the summer window.

The exciting midfielder has been in splendid form for the Italian side so far this campaign, netting two goals and providing four assists in 23 Italian Serie A matches for the club.

The Red Devil’s are believed to have made signing a quality midfielder a priority signing this summer as England international midfielder Michael Carrick prepares to hang his boots and with Belgian Marouane Fellaini’s United future unclear.

Meanwhile, the Red Devil’s are currently getting set for their crucial match against Crystal Palace in the League on Monday.
