Paul Merson and Gary Neville Criticized Arsenal
Arsenal were disgraced by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final as they conceded three goals without finding the back of the Citizens’ net.
There have been comments and reactions from pundits and fans towards the Gunners display against Manchester City. One of the early reactions from pundits was from former Manchester United player Gary Neville who questioned Wenger’s tactics. According to him, he didn’t know the formation deployed by the Frenchman against a team whose attack could cause havoc to any defense in the world.
Gary further blamed some players for their awful display throughout the encounter. He said that the runs of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka leading to city’s first goal was disgraceful and unprofessional. The United Legend believes Aubameyang was isolated due to Wenger’s formation which gives no room for Mesut Ozil to serve the Gabonese striker with much of the ball.
As for Merson, The team lack a winning mentality against the Sky Blue of Manchester. The 49-year-old pundit also criticized Aubameyang for being outplayed by Vincent Kompany who was making a return to Guardiola’s first eleven.
According to him, Arsenal played like a team who are engaged in a testimonial match while Manchester City played like a team who are hungry for their first major trophy
