Tuesday’s much anticipated Champions League clash between Chelsea and Barcelona didn’t produce what was expected by the fans but there were much positives to take from the match as Lionel Messi and other world-class players proved their qualities during the game.
Many fans and pundits expect the match to be a goal-filled one but that wasn’t the case as it took a mistake from Christensen and Messi brilliancy for Barcelona to equalized after falling behind to Willian’s second-half goal.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte surprised the Blues faithfuls when he revealed his starting lineup for the game. Many were shocked to see the Italian manager drop fully-fit Alvaro Morata on the bench alongside Olivier Giroud.
Another surprise in Conte’s tactics in the match was starting Eden Hazard as false 9 against his usual 10 he has been playing so far this season. Conte’s change in formation was very effective as the team were able to prevent Barca’s playmakers —Lionel Messi and Iniesta— from having too much space to cause havoc.
Belgian and Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi who is on loan at Borussia Dortmund was lively on Twitter throughout the game as he tweets some important events during the game.
One of his tweets was on Ngolo Kante who touched the ball just twice in 25 minutes. Though the Frenchman later grew into the game by showing the class he belongs to. Batshuayi praised the former Leicester City center midfielder.
Batshuayi also tweeted when William’s shot hit the crossbar; When the Brazilian scores the first goal of the match; A mistake from Christensen. He also took to Twitter when Messi broke his Chelsea jinx by scoring his first ever goal against the Premier League Champions.
