Liverpool have been largely criticized by fans and pundits for performing below expectations at the back so far this season. Despite possessing one of the deadliest attacking threat in the League, the Merseyside club have found themselves battling for next season’s Champions League qualifying ticket due to their woeful performances at the back of the pitch.
Jurgen Klopp’s men seem to have improved their defensive abilities since the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for £75million in the winter.
Though there have been massive improvements from Liverpool defenders in recent matches, Klopp still has a lot to do before the start of next season should he wish to compete with top Premier League clubs for the League title.
There have been rumours that the German manager is considering buying Lynchpin who is rated £45m in the summer transfer window so as to reinforce his defensive positions ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Liverpool’s midfield is good enough to compete for the trophy next season as the presence of Can, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain seem capable of preventing opponents’ dominance in the middle of the pitch. Klopp is also being linked with a move for Leicester’s defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in his mission to add depth to the quality of his midfield.
Liverpool might add another striker in the summer to complement the firepower they currently possess in order to ensure they have a world-class striker to turn to should there be any case of injury either Mane, Mohammed Salah or Firmino who have all been brilliant so far this season.
