Arsenal could be moving for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling who hasn’t been too impressive for the Red Devils so far this season.
The England’s full-back will see his contract with Manchester United expire in 2019 and according to Daily Mail he might just be moving to the North London club before the end of his contract with José Mourinho’s side.
Arsenal have been facing great defensive crisis since the start of the season which made Arsene Wenger looks desperate for West Brom’s veteran defender Jonny Evans during the winter window but the Frenchman failed in his bid to get the Northern Ireland international.
Chris Smalling has established himself as Manchester United undisputed centre-back since he switched to Old Trafford from Craven Cottage in 2010 but he seems to be getting affected by Mourinho’s style of play which could be responsible for his poor performances since Mourinho took charge as Manchester United boss in the 2016-17 season.
Smalling has scored just a goal since the start of the season after 31 appearances. His place could be under threat as Mourinho’s trusted full-back Eric Bailey returns from his injury. The Ivorian who has been out of action for several weeks is on course for a return against Sevilla in Tuesday’s Champions League fixture.
Marcos Rojo might start alongside Eric Bailey while the 28-year-old defender Chris Smalling could start from the substitute bench.
