Having lost two consecutive away games in the League to Tottenham and Newcastle respectively, José Mourinho is set to reinforce his team in the summer.
It is believed that out-of-form Chris Smalling and Phil Jones might be sold out of Old Trafford by the Portuguese manager in order to create space for his prime targets.
According to the Daily Mirror, the former Real Madrid boss is eyeing a move for Madrid’s defender Raphael Varane whom he coached during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Mourinho was responsible for the player’s switch to the Spanish giants in 2011 and he is set to exploit his relationship with the defender to convince him of a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Another player who could join Mourinho’s men in the summer is Leicester City’s defender Harry Maguire. The Leicester full-back has been impressive for the Foxes since joining the 2015 Premier League Champions in 2016.
United will have to compete with their neighbors Manchester City who are also monitoring the player.
Maguire is highly rated by Claude Puel and he might fail to release the player unless both clubs are ready to make huge-money offer for the King Power outfit’s player
Mourinho— who is not happy with United’s board of directors due to the amount they spend on defenders— has called on the club’s hierarchy to spend big on defenders just like their rivals Manchester City who spent a whopping sum of £57m for Aymeric Laporte’s signature in the winter.
