Manchester United are set to battle Chelsea for Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij as soon as the summer transfer window opens. The Dutchman is one of the highly-rated defenders in Serie A and he might be moving to Premier League as the League’s giants are set to compete for his signature.
Vrij was one of Van Gaal’s target during his reign as United boss but the former Holland manager couldn’t secure his service. Though the Lazio star is set to extend his stay with the club, he might equally be moving out of Lazio if both Premier League clubs are able to pay his buy-out clause of £20million which was in his contract agreement with Lazio.
Antonio Conte was linked with a move for the player but he couldn’t finalize the deal before he later turned his attention to Germany International Rudiger whom he bought for a fee of £32million from Roma.
With Gary Cahill’s inconsistent form and David Luiz injury problems, Antonio Conte could be making Vrij is prime target in the summer should he remain as Chelsea manager.
Manchester United boss José Mourinho is also tracking the player’s development at Lazio and he could be making a move for the Dutch defender.
After revealing his plan of not signing a new striker in the summer, the Portuguese manager will now spend the club’s money in reinforcing other positions including the defending and center midfield
