Lazio and Holland’s defender De Vrij who recently extended his contract with the Serie A club is set to create a transfer tug-of-war between Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in the summer.
It was reported on Monday that Chelsea are leading the chase for the Dutch international as they are ready to pay the player’s release clause of €28million which was in the one-year contract he signed with the Serie A giants.
Signing a new contract with Lazio seems not to go well with his agent as he wants De Vrij to join Chelsea as a Free Agent in the summer.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been monitoring the player’s performances since his first season at the Stamford Bridge and he could be going for him in the summer.
According to Il Messaggero, United and Liverpool are also interested in the defender and they could make a move for his signature in the summer, having learnt that his release clause could reduce to just £25million by the end of the season.
After seeing his defence exposed by Tottenham on Sunday, Liverpool manager might be forced to make an official approach to the player’s representative over a possible switch to the Merseyside club ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Conte could lose his job after his team’s surprise defeat to struggling Watford at the Vicarage Road.
The Blues were defeated 4-1 with Troy Deeney, Janmaat,
Deulofeu and Pereyra all on the score sheet for the Hornets while Hazard got a consolation goal for the Blues
