After renewing his contract by signing a three-and-a-half year contract with Arsenal which is said to earn him £350,000 as weekly wages, Mesut Ozil has been tipped to be a leader in the Gunners’ dressing room
According to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, the 29-year-old German midfielder is surely one of the best midfielders in world football who possess all the qualities required to lead their teammates on and off the pitch.
“You expect from him that he becomes the leader and takes responsibility and leads the team to success,” Wenger confessed to the the press
When asked on Friday about Ozil’s contract extension, the 68-year-old manager couldn’t deny his gladness to see that a player of such ability remains with the club. He said it was a nice accomplishment to hear that the former Real Madrid man has committed his future to the former Premier League Champions.
‘Many predicted he wouldn’t commit and not sign. It is good news for us – if you can keep a player of that calibre is of course good news,” he said.
The manager further revealed to reporters that he wants him to lead the team to greater success in the Nearest future.
Ozil has been an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s side since his move to the Emirates stadium in 2014 and will hope to continue his impressive form for the Gunners which have seen him created new Premier League assist record.
Wenger further admitted that the team requires his services more than before due to the fact that they are on the verge of not playing in the Champions League competition next season as they are currently not among the top four clubs in the Premier League table. They are at home to Everton on Saturday.
