Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera was seen to have been held on the throat by Tottenham’s defender Jan Vertoghen in yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to the Lilywhites at the Wembley Stadium.
The Englishman who came on in the 70th minute was engaged in an argument with the Spurs defender but the centre referee could do nothing about it as he didn’t notice the incident.
After seeing the incident’s images on social media, Manchester United faithfuls have called on the FA to take necessary action over the incident.
In the footage, Vertoghen was seen grabbing the throat of the England’s midfielder. Vertonghen’s action has left the Red Devils faithful more furious and they want him to be banned by the English FA.
It should be recalled that Manchester United right-back Ashley Young was given a three-match ban for elbowing Dusan Tadic earlier in the season. Therefore, the fans believed that Vertoghen should be judged accordingly.
United surprisingly conceded the fastest goal in Premier League’s history as they allowed Erikson found the back of the net in just 11 seconds into the game.
With yesterday’s result, United are now 15 points behind League leaders Manchester City who recorded a 3-0 victory against West Brom at the Etihad Stadium.
They will hope to return back to winning ways when they face Huddersfield On Saturday so as to cement their place among the top four clubs by the end of the season.
