Star player in trouble? As Man United fans call for ban after incident

Manchester United fans are calling for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vetonghen to face a retrospective ban for an incident involving Man United midfielder Ander Herrera.

The incident occurred during the North London side’s 2-0 victory over United at Wembley in an utterly dominant display from Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

A goal after 11 seconds from Christian Eriksen pretty much set the tone before Phil Jones put the ball through his own net in the 28th minute.

However, an incident late on has gotten many fans of the Red Devils frustrated. Video clips of the game appear to show Vertonghen grab Herrera by the throat after a tackle on the Spaniard. This sort of incident has been revisited by the FA on a few occasions this season, with United’s Ashley Young serving a 3-match ban earlier in the season for elbowing Southampton’s Dusan Tadic even though it was missed by the referee.

This new incident was also missed by centre referee on the night, Andre Marriner but the silence so far from the press and the FA is what has infuriated many Man United fans, with a number of said fans airing their opinions on social media.

It is however not too late for action to be taken and the Belgian could still face retrospective action for his actions.

Both teams return to action this week when Man United host Huddersfield town and Tottenham face Liverpool at Anfield.
