Finally, German midfielder Mesut Ozil confirmed he is staying at Arsenal.

The former Real Madrid player has made an important decision to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

His previous deal was meant to expire at the end of this season and the fans were scared they could lose him like they lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United last week.

There were various reports linking the 29-year-old with a move to Manchester United to reunite with his former manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

But the North Londoners confirmed a few hours ago that Ozil has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term deal.

He has finally agreed to a new three-and-a-half-year deal.

Mesut moved to Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 and has become one of the most important players at the club.

Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal last week, and it is understood the red devils are still interested in bringing Ozil too to Old Trafford as a free man this summer.

But Jose Mourinho’s side will need to look elsewhere after the North Londoners tied Mesut down to a new deal.

The new contract will see Ozil earn around £350,000 each week at the Emirates Stadium.

Since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid, the Germany international has played 182 games and has scored 36 goals with 61 assists.
