Long term Chelsea first team absentee Baba Rahman is set to rejoin German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 on loan.
Rahman joined Chelsea from German club Augsburg in 2015 in a deal initially worth £14 million. He, however, was unable to convince Italian manager Antonio Conte – when he took over at Stamford Bridge – of his defensive quality and was sent on a season long loan to Schalke at the start of the 2016/2017 season.
He, however, picked up a serious injury while on international duty in January 2017 that ruled him out until recently.
His loan spell was interrupted and he is now set to return to the Gelsenkirchen for the rest of the season.
Schalke were always favourites to sign the 23-year old Ghanaian international despite interest from Premier League side, Everton.
He was also promised a way back to the first team by manager Conte but the impending arrival of Emerson Palmieri from Roma had seen a move to Germany sanctioned by the Blues.
However reports from Skysports, say the defender is set for a medical while negotiations are ongoing. The report further states that Schalke are hoping for an 18-month loan spell and not just to the end of the season as earlier reported.
Rahman made 13 appearances for Schalke in the Bundesliga before injury put an end to his time with the club.
