Spanish giants, Real Madrid are set to return with a summer bid for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, this is according to new reports from Spain.
The shot-stopper has been a long-standing target for the La Liga champions and had been close to moving to the Spanish capital back in 2015 only for a delayed fax to halt that particular transfer.
The talks, however, had cooled down in recent times with the Old Trafford club standing their ground as regards their No. 1. This saw Real turn to 23-year old Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
This also has not gone according to plan for the European champions as the youngster has now put pen to paper on a new deal with Bilbao which will keep in at the club until 2025. This has seemingly put an end to links with Real Madrid with a release clause of €80 million inserted into his contract.
The reports now suggest that this new development will see the Real Madrid club return for De Gea in the summer with a renewed bid.
At this point, Man United are expected to reaffirm their desire to keep a hold of De Gea – who is arguably the best in the business right now – but the player is known to fancy a return to Madrid having played for Atletico Madrid in the past.
Real Madrid have also been linked with Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.
