Latest reports say Manchester City are set to make a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.
The left-footed Brazilian operates mainly from the centre of the pitch either as a central midfield player or as a number 10.
The 24-year old has also attracted interest from Manchester United, who have been reported to be considering a bid for the player.
These new reports now say Premier League leaders Manchester City are set to do just that after manager Pep Guardiola identified him as a potential replacement for compatriot Fernandinho.
News of a £45 million bid made to the Ukrainian club from City have also surfaced. This particular report says the bid fell short of Shaktar’s valuation of their star midfield player. However, City are said to be keen on returning with a higher bid.
This is set to present a bidding war for the talented Brazilian as although City have reportedly made a bid, Man United are very interested in Fred as Jose Mourinho is looking to replace veteran Englishman Michael Carrick and the Ukraine-based midfield player is high on the list.
Fred – full name Frederico Rodrigues Santos – joined Shakhtar Donetsk from Brazilian side Internacional in 2013 and has made over 90 appearances for the club.
He is a Brazil international and represented the Seleccao in the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
