£140,000-a-week star could be unbelievable for Man United, Better terms offered – Legend

Manchester United have been linked with a move to hijack rivals Manchester City’s bid to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean has for a while now been pushing for a move to the Blue half of Manchester United but according to latest reports, the Red Devil have offered better terms for the 29-year old as Jose Mourinho continues his search for attacking reinforcements.

The deal mooted could see the out-of-favour Henrikh Mkhitaryan go to North London.

Now according to former Man United and Everton star Phil Neville, the signing of Sanchez could have a similar impact as to when the club sign Robin Van Persie or Eric Cantona.

He said,

“As reported by Dailystar – He said, i think he would be an  unbelievable signing. If you look back at Man Utd’s big signings over the decades, Cantona came out of the hat, Van Persie was a surprise, and they both helped United win titles. He’s got the character, charisma and potential to play at Old Trafford.”

It has been mentioned several times in the media that the former Barcelona star is set for a January move away from The Emirates with City his preferred destination but United’s offer has certainly made the situation more interesting, considering also that Jose Mourinho is looking to sign his club teammate Mesut Ozil.

Unai Emery

Premier League title winner Joleon Lescott has urged Arsenal manager Unai Emery to strengthen his squad with quality defenders in the current transfer window.

The ex-Premier League defender advised Unai Emery about his Arsenal squad while he was on Sky Sports as monitored by the Daily Star.

Joleon Lescott was of the opinion that the Gunners’ problems are mainly defensive rather than attacking and that Unai Emery should boost his squad with quality defenders.

The ex-Manchester City, Everton and Sunderland left-back cum centre back went on to praise the Gunners’ attacking duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette before adding that he won’t want to face the two players as a defender.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has admitted that the North Londoners can only sign players on loan despite the fact that his squad has been decimated with injuries especially on the defensive front.

The Gunners won’t be able to call on the services of both Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin for the rest of the season following respective serious knee injuries.

England defender Holding sustained the injury last month against top four rivals Manchester United, while Spanish right-back sustained the knee problem during the 2-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend.

Eric Bailly

Three-time European champions Manchester United have rejected a loan bid from top four rivals Arsenal for one of their defenders.

According to the Daily Mail, North London giants Arsenal firmed up their long-term interest in Eric Bailly by proposing a loan bid for him but the Gunners were swiftly rebuffed by Manchester United.

Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the Ivorian international centre back dating back to when Jose Mourinho was the Red Devils manager.

Eric Bailly was said to be one of the players that had an issue with the Portuguese tactician before he was sacked from his job last month.

The Ivorian defender was the first signing of the Mourinho era at Manchester United after his £30m transfer from Spanish La Liga club Villareal in the summer of 2016 shortly after the Portuguese manager was named the Red Devils boss.

He was a constant fixture in the Manchester United defence, whenever he’s not injured, until recently.

Bailly, 24, started the first two games of this season in the Premier League and has made just seven more appearances since then.

He has 18 months left on his contract at the club though Manchester United have the right to activate two additional years to take his time at the club to the summer of 2022.

Gelson Martins

Struggling Premier League outfit Newcastle United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins.

The Daily Mail claim that the Magpies have made a loan enquiry for the Portuguese international player.

Gelson Martins was a member of the 23-man Portugal squad to last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

The European champions crashed out of the tournament at the first knockout stage after they were beaten 2-1 by South American nation Uruguay.

The 23-year-old moved to Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid from Portuguese Super League club Sporting Lisbon immediately after the World Cup tournament in Russia.

He has not made the impact that was expected of him at the Wanda Metropolitano since he joined the club at the start of the season.

Apart from the Magpies, Gelson Martins has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this month.

The Gunners have lost England international forward Danny Welbeck to long-term injury and Gelson Martins could be a like-for-like replacement for him.

Atletico Madrid are keen to get his wages off their wage bill having already added Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to their playing squad.

Emiliano Martinez

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is closing in on a transfer to English Championship strugglers Reading in this January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners third-choice goalie will join the Royals on a short-term loan until the end of the season.

Reading are third from bottom on the Championship table.

The Argentine shot-stopper spent last season on loan at Spanish La Liga club Getafe before returning to Arsenal in the summer of 2018.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery then persuaded him to join the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore.

Emiliano Martinez is the Gunners’ third goalkeeper behind Petr Cech and new signing Bernd Leno who’s the undisputed number one Arsenal goalie following his arrival from German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen at the start of this season.

Martinez has found playing time hard to come by as a result of his status.

He has played just once this season and that was accompanied by a clean sheet following the 1-0 win over Qarabag at the Emirates Stadium in what was the Gunners’ last game in the Europa League group stage this term.

Retired Czech Republic international goalkeeper Cech will leave Arsenal at the end of the season having announced his retirement from football last week.

The 36-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.
