Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard continued his recent goalscoring exploits with another stunning strike against Derby County in the FA cup 3rd Round clash on Friday night.
The Red Devils squandered chance after chance in a game that could have easily been a rout on any other day. Young forward Marcus Rashford was most guilty of this, missing very good chances as he was given a chance to play in his more preferred centre-forward role.
It was however until 6 minutes before the end that in form man Jesse Lingard came up with yet another goal for his collection, with a brilliant strike from outside the box that left Derby goalkeeper Scott Carson with no chance.
Substitute Romelu Lukaku secured the victory with the second in stoppage time to move United into the 4th Round with a 2-0 victory.
After the game, manager Jose Mourinho expressed his delight with Lingard’s performances in recent times.
“It was an amazing goal,” he said. “I think he is comfortable in the positions he plays. I think he is improving with the progressive style of the team.”
He further stated that the team’s style is benefiting the 25-year old and that at the moment everything is going well for him.
Lingard has now scored 8 goals in his last 10 matches for the club and will be looking to continue this form that saw him claim his first ever Manchester United Player of the Month award for December.
