Manchester United have a long list of injury casualties as we head out of the festive periods with star players succumbing to various forms of injuries.
However, ahead of Friday night’s FA cup tie against Derby County at Old Trafford, the trio of Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Romelu Lukaku have handed a major boost to their manager, Jose Mourinho, as they returned to training.
The Manchester United boss made this known in a pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with the Championship’s second-placed team.
The players return from different layoffs after missing different periods of the season.
Romelu Lukaku suffered a concussion which saw him become unconscious for a brief period in United’s goalless draw with Southampton in their last game of 2017 after a clash of heads with Wesley Hoedt.
Fellaini has been out injured for a longer period which has seen him miss the last 11 games for the club and will be a big boost for the team as his physical presence has been missed in set-piece situations.
Michael Carrick also returns after a heart procedure to correct a minor heart scare which has seen him make only one appearance for The Red Devils this season.
Manchester United will be looking to ‘do well’ in the FA Cup this season after already crashing out in the Carabao cup and being well behind rivals Manchester City in the league.
