Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard had been named the club’s Player of the Month for December, a statement on the club’s Official Twitter account has confirmed.
The 25-year England International won the monthly prize ahead of Juan Mata and defender Phil Jones to claim the award for the first time in his career. He did so by a landslide claiming over 85% of the fans votes.
The Manchester United academy graduate has been in sublime form in the past weeks scoring 7 goals in his last 9 Premier League games – including 5 goals in December – which has made him a shoo-in for a spot in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI.
His goals have also been mightily important as he scored a brace in a 3-1 win against Arsenal, the winner against West Brom at the Hawthorns and another double to rescue a point for the Red Devils against Burnley as well as the second goal against Everton on New Year’s Day in a 2-0 win at Goodison Park.
His overall play has also enjoyed an upturn and he has been Mourinho’s go-to guy in terms of covering ground as well as the movement of the ball – which has been hugely impressive.
The midfielder is finally delivering on the backings received from Mourinho and the manager will be hoping he is able to continue with this rich vein of form.
