Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman has been out of the Blues squad since the start of last season as he was sent on loan to German side Schalke 04 but midway through the season, he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season and caught short his loan spell at the club.
The defender only just returned from the injury and he is working hard to regain his match fitness and prove himself to manager Antonio Conte as reported last week.
The Chelsea manager has now offered slight hope to the Ghanaian international when he said in a pre-match press conference that he could give the player a chance in the second half of the season.
It has been reported that there are a few clubs interested in taking the 23-year old on loan for the rest of the season as Fiorentina, Schalke 04 and Everton have all been linked with interests.
“It’s a good question,” Conte said when as if Rahman will be leaving the club on loan in January. “This player is coming from a bad, bad injury. He is struggling a bit to recover the best form. To be honest, I don’t know whats happening with Baba. For sure, from the human aspect, I’d like to give him an opportunity to come back stronger like before.”
Baba Rahman signed for Chelsea from Augsburg in 2015 but hasn’t featured for the club since Antonio Conte took charge.
Chelsea are known to be looking to add a left back to their squad in January but if Baba is able to provide quality cover for Marcos Alonso, the club might just hold off on any transfer deals at least until the summer.
