Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Armenian National team captain, Henrikh Mkhitaryan started the new season in superb form, contributing 5 assists in as many games, but since then it has all gone downhill fast for the midfielder.

The 28-year old attacking midfielder has been axed from 5 of the last 6 match day squads in all competitions by boss, Jose Mourinho.

He has been accused of disappearing in matches especially during a bad spell for United in October where they managed only one Premier League win.

It seems Mkhitaryan is unfancied at the moment by Mourinho and has lost his place in the starting lineup to the in-form Jesse Lingard.

Mourinho recently expressed his disappointment publicly;

“I was not happy with his last performances. I’m not speaking of one or two, I’m speaking three, four or five. He started the season very well and after that step by step he was disappearing. Everybody works to have a chance. It’s as simple as that. So last couple of games Mkhitaryan was out and other players had the opportunity.”

Mkhitaryan’s United career has not been a smooth ride since his arrival from Dortmund last year. He was also dropped for 2 months last season before returning and proving to be indispensable and the player will be hoping to be given the opportunity to force his way back into his manager’s plans.

Former club Borussia Dortmund have been credited with an interest in resigning the Armenian and with the rumours of United’s continued interest in Arsenal’s contract-rebel, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has a fight on his hands to prove he deserves to remain at Old Trafford
