The Stamford Bridge club has recently been linked with a surprise move for Real Madrid’s Spanish sensation Marco Asensio.
The Youngster has been unable to build on his blistering performances last season, where he helped the Los Blancos, to La Liga and Champions League triumphs. He has failed to seal a place in Real’s starting eleven this season and is reportedly seeking a move away from the club.
Chelsea appear to be the early frontrunners in this particular story but as with any deal involving Real Madrid, there’s always going to be a twist in the tale.
According to the rumours in the Spanish media, Chelsea will only be able to sign the Spanish U21 international if star man Eden Hazard goes the other way.
The Belgian has in the past hinted an interest in playing for the Bernabeu club and also working with their current manager Zinedine Zidane sometime in the future. Zidane, who also holds strong admiration towards the winger, is in need of new attacking players given the failings of his team so far this season and will try to lure him away from Chelsea as he views to improve his squad.
Antonio Conte will, of course, like to add a player of Asensio’s ability and potential to his team but losing Hazard will be a massive blow to the Blues. This makes the swap deal hugely unlikely but this particular transfer (if it were to go through) would demand a high fee. For sure we haven’t heard the last of this transfer story.
