Schalke star midfielder, Leon Goretzka, is set to make a decision on his future this January as his contract with the German club runs into its final six months.
Goretzka, who is a target of both Man United and Arsenal, has been in great form this season, kicking on from where he left off last season. He scored eight goals and provided six assists in all competitions last season, helping Schalke to a tenth-placed finish in bundesliga as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa league.
He also starred for Germany in their 2017 FIFA confederations cup winning team scoring three goals. Naturally a deep-lying midfield player, he has an eye for goal and is becoming more of an attacking threat for both club and country.
Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old playmaker who has stated that he plans to make a decision on his next move in January.
In an interview after a 2-2 draw with Cologne, he said
“I have to find out for myself what the next step should be. I have to consider a million things. I am a person who is very meticulous in such decisions. I play through all the scenarios. So I need time. There doesn’t exist a deadline, but I think we are in the final phase. The final decision will be made in January.”
Schalke have been unable to so far convince their star player to extend on his current deal and will possibly be open to selling in January. This is a welcome development for all interested clubs as Goretzka is one of the most sought-after young players in world football at the moment.
