The two Manchester clubs have taken their rivalry from the pitch of play to the signature of players.
Both clubs are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal player Mesut Ozil who was earlier looking like joining Manchester United for a reunion with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
However, with more clubs showing interests in the German player, there seem to be more choices for the Turkey-born midfielder.
The Gunners are expected to lose their biggest stars – Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil – when the season ends. Both might even leave for free if they choose to leave in the summer.
However, with both Manchester United and Manchester City looking to strengthen their squads come January, Ozil might leave the Emirates Stadium way before Alexis Sanchez.
The former Real Madrid player is a favourite of both coaches as he was brought to Real Madrid during Jose Mourinho’s tenure, and his playing style suits Pep Guardiola’s football philosophy.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested in bringing the creative midfielder back to Spain where he won many hearts. It remains to be seen if Ozil will return to the Spanish La Liga.
Even if he stays in England, it is almost certain that he will not be donning the Arsenal jersey. His choice of club is in Manchester, not London.
