According to reports, Jose Mourinho has asked his side to trigger the 12-month extension clause in Ander Herrera’s deal so as to block the Spanish midfielder’s move to Atletico Madrid.
Herrera moved to Manchester United from Athletic Bilbao for £28 Million back then in 2014. He signed a four-year deal with the red devils alongside an option to extend his stay at the club by a further year.
It is understood that Jose Mourinho’s side are not going to focus on the 12-month extension clause, but intend negotiating a completely new deal with him.
However, talks have been dragging on for too long and it is unlikely that an agreement will be reached before the end of this year.
Meanwhile, La Liga side Atletico Madrid have been taking note of his situation at Old Trafford after he refused signing a new deal. And since his current contract is meant to end next summer, Atletico have the liberty to begin talks with him next January.
However, Man United manager Jose Mourinho wants everything blocked, and has ordered his Side to trigger the midfielder’s extension to prevent him from signing an agreement with the Madrid club.
Although Ander, who won the Man United Player of the Year Award last season, is said to be happy at Man United, it is understood that he desire moving back to his hometown before the end of his career.
