Manchester United are now eight points behind league leaders Man City despite kicking off this season impressively.
And as far as the club’s transfers are concerned, there are new reports that manager Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing a new defender into his team, and the player in question is Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.
The Portuguese manager signed Victor Lindelof during the past summer transfer window from Benfica with £31million, but the Swedish international has failed to impress so far this season.
Jose has adapted to a back three in his recent games, and he is repeatedly concerned about the possibilities of losing any of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to injury anytime soon.
He is understood to be keen on reuniting Raphael Varane with him at Old Trafford, and the player was his number one choice during the summer window.
Mourinho signed Varane for the La Liga club when he was still boss at the club, and both spent some time together in the Spanish capital before Mourinho’s departure.
The Frenchman(Umtiti) has however evolved into one of the most important members of the club and is now a first-team regular after Pepe left Bernabeu.
Considering all these, Manchester United are reportedly not confident that Real Madrid will allow him to leave the club, and the Mirror are reporting that the Old Trafford club are now focusing their efforts on Barcelona man Umtiti.
The talented defender has a £53m release clause in his contract, and the report added that he will be interested in moving to Old Trafford.
